But it all started with their original Ghostbed model.

It contains gel memory foam, as well as synthetic latex and other components to keep it cool.

GhostBed Mattress Firmness and Feel

We typically start by evaluating a mattress for its firmness and feel.

This gives us a good initial idea of who the mattress will be a good fit for.

If you want to know how firm the GhostBed mattress is and what it feels like, read on.

How Firm Is the GhostBed?

The GhostBed is given an 8 out of 10 on the scale, which means it is more firm-than-average.

The firmness of the mattress can be attributed to the high-density support foam, which is designed to provide a stable sleeping surface that’s well-suited to back sleepers and stomach sleepers, in particular.

Sleeping on the GhostBed

For most back sleepers, the GhostBed will deliver just the right level of support, allowing hips to sink into the mattress without feeling like you’re bottoming out.

A few lighter-weight back sleepers will find this mattress too firm, but for the most part, the GhostBed is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you should also find the support you need under your hips.

If you are a side sleeper, we recommend having a look at the Ghostbed Luxe, as it is a softer mattress.

What Does the GhostBed Feel Like?

The GhostBed is a great choice for people who prefer the feeling of a traditional mattress.

You might find the mattress to be more than accommodating, as it’s responsive to movement, making it a comfortable and supportive choice for those who tend to move around at night.

Average Weight Sleepers (130 lbs – 230 lbs)

If you’re closer to the lower end of this weight range and a back sleeper, you may find the bed a little too firm. Again, we enrourage you to check out the Ghostbed Luxe or the 3D Matrix.

Those who weigh around 230 lbs will find that it’s just the right balance of comfort and support.

Stomach sleepers in this weight range should find the GhostBed comfortable.

The GhostBed is not the best bed for an average weight side sleeper. It simply doesn’t have enough give to relieve pressure points. For average weight side sleepers, take a look at the Ghostbed Luxe.

Heavyweight Sleepers (>230 lbs)

Those who are more than 300 lbs should maybe consider a mattress that has been made with coils for added support, even though the GhostBed is quite comfortable.

The GhostBed should be able to provide just the right level of firmness for stomach sleepers who weigh around 230 lbs. If you are closer to 300 lbs, you may want to look for a sturdier mattress.

The GhostBed is likely to feel too firm to be truly comfortable for heavyweight side sleepers. We recommend checking out the Ghostbed Flex if this is you.

Lightweight Sleepers (<130 lbs)

The GhostBed may feel too firm, so lightweight back and side sleepers should be aware of it.

There may be some real discomfort at the shoulders and hips, especially for those who prefer side sleeping. For those we recommend either the Ghostbed Flex or Ghostbed Luxe.

The lightweight stomach sleepers should feel right at home.

GhostBed Mattress Construction

Ghostbed-LayersNow, let’s look under the cover of the GhostBed mattress and see exactly what is inside. Our research team will take each component of the GhostBed mattress one by one and figure out what it does for the overall performance.

Cover

The material on the cover of the GhostBed mattress is a stretchy polyester material, which is very thin and breathable. It does a more than satisfactory job of keeping the mattress cool.

Comfort Layers

Under the cover, the GhostBed offers 1.5″ of aerated latex foam.

This is a synthetic latex, so those looking for an all-natural or organic option may want to look elsewhere.

From a performance perspective, this latex does the trick: It’s very responsive and it’s ventilation helps to keep you cool during the night.

Under that, you’ll find the 2″ of gel memory foam that will keep your mattress comfortable throughout the night, and prevent you from sweating. It also adds a bit more pressure relief to the top of the mattress.

Support Layer

The 7.5″ high density foam in the support foundation of the GhostBed helps to keep the mattress firm and stable.

Mattress Height

The Ghostbed is 11″ tall in total.

GhostBed Mattress Performance

For many shoppers, the real test is how the mattress performs, but we have explained what the GhostBed is made of and what it feels like. We will see how the GhostBed did.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The GhostBed team makes a big deal about how cool their mattress is, and it lives up to the hype.

GhostBed is using latex and gel in their mattresses, which are known for their cooling properties.

It’s easy to recommend this mattress to hot sleepers because it’s easy to move air through the mattress and prevents body heat retention.

Motion Transfer

The GhostBed has some bounce to it, which is good news for combination sleepers, but not so good for couples.

Since it isn’t the best at isolating motion, it is possible that sharing the mattress could cause some disturbance through the night.

If you are looking the best mattress for couples, we recommend the Ghostbed Luxe.

Edge Support

Excellent edge support can be found in the sturdy foam construction of the GhostBed.

As you sit at the corner or sleep at the edge of your mattress, you will feel supported.

Durability

This mattress is made of high-quality materials.

It should hold up for seven to 10 years, and we consider it to be highly durable.

Off-Gassing

You may smell a faint chemical smell when you unbox your GhostBed.

This may be off-putting, but we found that it dissipated within 48 hours. This is to be expected from a bed in a box mattress.

Noise

We were not able to notice any noise from the Ghostbed mattress.

Sex

It’s easy to move around and change positions on the GhostBed.

It’s an excellent mattress for sex as partners should have no trouble moving around.

Warranty

The GhostBed comes with a 20-year warranty and a 101-night sleep trial, both of which should give you some confidence as you think about buying the product.

Ghostbed Return Policy

It’s easy to return a GhostBed mattress. It is a lot simpler than most other returns.

The return process is broken down in a step-by-step fashion:

Step 1: Contact GhostBed

To initiate a return, the first step is reaching out to GhostBed after day 30 but before day 101. You can do this in the following ways:

To expedite the process, pull up the receipt or email with the order number.

Step 2: Complete the Requested Information

GhostBed might ask you to fill out a form or send photos. The form is to help them organize the return while the photos demonstrate that your mattress is still in great condition. If it isn’t in good shape, the charity won’t take it and GhostBed won’t give you a refund.

We recommend using a waterproof mattress cover on your new mattress to keep it safe. You don’t want a spill or other accident to make it so you can’t return the mattress.

Step 3: Prepare for Mattress Pickup

GhostBed will work with you and a local charity to arrange a time and date for the pickup of your mattress. You won’t need to rebox your mattress, but you should prepare it for donation. It’s usually carried to your front door and then home for the pickup.

Step 4: Watch for Your Refund

After the mattress has been donated, you’ll be able to get a refund. Expect to see your refund within 3 business days from the date of mattress pickup. It will be refunded to your original form of payment.
