GhostBed Mattress Firmness and Feel

We typically start by evaluating a mattress for its firmness and feel.

This is a great starting point for selecting the perfect mattress for you.

If you want to know how firm the GhostBed mattress is and what it feels like, keep reading.

How Firm Is the GhostBed?

The GhostBed got an 8 out of 10 on the scale, which means it is more firm than average.

The high-density support foam is the reason for much of this firmness. The high-density support foam is designed to provide a stable sleeping surface that is well-suited to back and stomach sleeping styles.

Sleeping on the GhostBed

The GhostBed’s patented system delivers just the right amount of support to let you sink into the mattress without feeling like you’re bottoming out.

Ghostbed is by far one of the best mattresses for back sleepers. However if you are lightweight, you may find it a little too firm.

Stomach sleepers should also find the support they require under the hips.

If you are a side sleeper, we recommend having a look at the Ghostbed Luxe, as it is a softer mattress.

What Does the GhostBed Feel Like?

The GhostBed is a great choice for people who prefer the feeling of a traditional mattress.

You might find the mattress to be more than accommodating, as it’s responsive to movement, making it a comfortable and supportive choice for those who tend to move around at night.

Average Weight Sleepers (130 lbs – 230 lbs)

If you’re closer to the lower end of this weight range and a back sleeper, you may find the bed a little too firm. Again, we enrourage you to check out the Ghostbed Luxe or the 3D Matrix.

Closer to 230 lbs will likely find that it’s just the right balance of comfort and support.

The GhostBed should be comfortable and supportive for stomach sleepers in this weight range.

The GhostBed is not the best bed for an average weight side sleeper. It simply doesn’t have enough give to relieve pressure points. For average weight side sleepers, take a look at the Ghostbed Luxe.

Heavyweight Sleepers (>230 lbs)

Even though the Ghostbed is quite comfortable, those who are more than 300 lbs should consider a mattress that has been made with coils for added durability and support.

The GhostBed should be able to offer just the right amount of firmness for stomach sleepers who are around 230 lbs. If you weigh more than 300 lbs, however, you should find a more sturdy mattress.

The GhostBed is likely to feel too firm to be truly comfortable for heavyweight side sleepers. We recommend checking out the Ghostbed Flex if this is you.

Lightweight Sleepers (<130 lbs)

Lightweight back and side sleepers should also be aware that the GhostBed may feel too firm.

Those who prefer side sleeping may experience some pain at the shoulders and hips. For those we recommend either the Ghostbed Flex or Ghostbed Luxe.

Lightweight sleepers, however, should feel right at home on the GhostBed.

GhostBed Mattress Construction

Ghostbed-LayersYou want to know exactly what’s inside this mattress before you buy it, so let’s take a peek underneath the cover.Let’s take a look at each layer and what it does for the overall performance of the GhostBed.

Cover

The cover of the GhostBed is made with a stretchy material which is very thin and soft. It does a great job of cooling the mattress.

Comfort Layers

Under the cover, the GhostBed offers 1.5″ of aerated latex foam.

It’s important to note that this is synthetic latex, so those looking for an all-natural or organic option may want to look elsewhere.

From a performance perspective, this latex does the trick: It’s very responsive and it’s ventilation helps to keep you cool during the night.

Under that, you’ll find another 2″ of gel memory foam, to prevent sweating throughout the night. It also adds a bit more pressure relief to the top of the mattress.

Support Layer

The GhostBed has 7.5″ of high-density foam at its base, helping keep the mattress firm, steady, and stable.

Mattress Height

The Ghostbed is 11″ tall in total.

GhostBed Mattress Performance

We have explained what the GhostBed is made of, and what it feels like, but for many shoppers, the real test is how the mattress performs. Let’s check to see how the GhostBed did.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The GhostBed team makes a big deal about how cool their mattress runs; and by and large, it lives up to the hype.

GhostBed uses materials that are well-known for their cooling potential, including latex and gel.

This mattress comes with some extra-added ventilation to help keep the sleeper cool during warmer nights.

Motion Transfer

The GhostBed has some bounce to it, which is good news for combination sleepers, but not so good for couples.

Sharing the mattress with someone else can disturb you throughout the night, because it doesn’t isolate motion very well.

If you are looking the best mattress for couples, we recommend the Ghostbed Luxe.

Edge Support

Excellent edge support can be achieved by the sturdy foam construction of the GhostBed.

As you sit at the corner or sleep at the edge of your mattress, you will feel stable and supported.

Durability

The mattress is constructed from high-quality materials.

It should hold up well for seven to 10 years, and we consider it to be highly durable.

Off-Gassing

There is a faint chemical smell when you first unbox your GhostBed.

We found that it dissipated within 48 hours. This is the norm from a mattress in a box.

Noise

We were not able to notice any noise from the Ghostbed mattress.

Sex

It is really easy to move around on the GhostBed.

It would be an excellent mattress for sex, as partners should be able to move around.

Warranty

This mattress comes with a 101-night sleep trial and a 20-year warranty. Those two factors should help give you confidence when you’re deciding to buy the mattress.

Ghostbed Return Policy

The return of a GhostBed mattress is easy. It is a lot simpler than almost any other return you make.

Below is a step-by-step breakdown of how the return process works.

Step 1: Contact GhostBed

To initiate a return, the first step is reaching out to GhostBed after day 30 but before day 101. You can do this in the following ways:

To expedite the process, pull up the receipt or email with the order number.

Step 2: Complete the Requested Information

You might be asked to fill out a form or send photos. The form should be used to organize the return and the photos should show that your mattress is still in good shape. If your mattress is not in good shape, the charity won’t take it, and GhostBed won’t give a refund.

To keep your new mattress safe, we recommend using a waterproof mattress cover from the first night you sleep on the bed. You want to avoid spills or other accidents that make it hard to return the mattress.

Step 3: Prepare for Mattress Pickup

GhostBed will work with you and a local charity to arrange a time and date for the pickup of your mattress. While you won’t need to rebox your mattress, you must prepare it for donation. This typically includes carrying it to your front door and being home for the mattress pickup.

Step 4: Watch for Your Refund

GhostBed will refund your purchase only after the mattress has been successfully donated. You can expect to get your refund within 3 business days after mattress pickup. You will receive a refund in the form of the original form of payment.
